Writings
For years I have been attempting to “translate” medical complexities into understandable and helpful concepts for my patients and my students. That translation work has often extended outward to nonmedical people, as well. Now I want to extend this teaching to you.
Note: the patients in these accounts are intentionally de-identified. Specific details have been changed to obscure identities, and some persons are composites. These patients presented in the stories are not intended to represent actual individuals and should not be construed as such.
Introducing Your Inner Army
Peggy had no immunity to the novel coronavirus. By the time the central command in her immune system realized that an invasion was taking place, it was too late. In the same way many public health authorities and leaders around the globe failed to recognize the threat of a pandemic posed by the novel coronavirus. In fairness to them – and to Peggy’s T cells – this was a new threat.
Decoding COVID
What a sneaky foe – a mindless device that can gain access to human cells and hide out there, while using our own cellular machinery to mass produce more weapons to be unleashed on our organs. How can the human body stack up against such an adversary?
COVID-19 Up Close and Personal
There is an epic battle raging in Peggy’s body. Let me take you inside and show you what is happening to her and many others like her, as her immune system valiantly fights the infection. I would like to introduce you to the combatants in this conflict, starting with the enemy, the novel coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 infections.
Stirred, Not Shaken
We may fear; we may suffer. Someday, of course, we will inevitably die. But we should be stirred, not shaken. Pray hard; consider how you may do good for the glory of God during this global upheaval. It would be a shame to waste a pandemic just trying to survive.
A COVID Question
I would really like for you and me to come through this pandemic unscathed. Unscathed…but not unchanged. After returning to normal, will we be the same? Will we return to the same exact world and lives? I certainly hope not.
